FlexSea is dedicated to creating sustainable processes that utilise the full biomass of the seaweed.
This passion for circularity has given rise to our Biotechnology vertical which sees us use natural practices such as bacterial fermentation to extract the full wealth of available material from our seaweed sources. Through utilising waste material from our bioplastics vertical and by-products from other seaweed industries (such as agar and carrageenan extraction) we are going beyond this to regenerate materials that can be cycled back into these industries, reducing the demand for virgin materials.
Our three biopolymers are from three distinct categories of biomolecules and encompass a diverse range of applications from cosmetics to packaging, filters to waste water treatments

properties deliver long-lasting hydration, while its biocompatibility ensures gentle care for all skin types.
With the ability to enhance our products with natural seaweed extracts, we can add specific properties to our cosmetic ingredients, such as SPF-enhancement. Therefore MarisGuard offers moisture-retention capabilities with natural SPF-boosting abilities making it an ideal ingredient for next-generation skincare formulations.

Alganoate
Our Alganoate is a biodegradable, home-compostable polymer naturally produced by microorganisms. Alganoate is a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics and broadens FlexSea’s portfolio of sustainable materials designed to replace conventional plastics.
In addition to their remarkable biodegradability, Alganoate exhibits excellent thermal stability, mechanical strength, and barrier properties, making it an ideal choice for high-performance applications.

Ultra-pure polysaccharide
We are excited that the development of our ultra-pure polysaccharide fibres is well underway. Our research is exploring their use in textiles as ingredients in bioleather production, nanofilters and as a sustainable alternative to virgin cellulose in paper production. While still within early stages of development, we are excited to further develop how these fibres can displace traditional materials.
