We’re thrilled to announce an exciting new grant collaboration with New Zealand-based NanoLayr—a partnership that spans the globe and showcases the potential of innovation without borders.
At the heart of this initiative lies the SWIFT project, which aims to revolutionise air filtration using FlexSea’s eco-friendly materials. NanoLayr will transform both our seaweed-based bioplastic formulations and biomaterials generated by our biotechnology vertical into nanofibers—materials that are 500 times thinner than human hair, offering exceptional efficiency in capturing microscopic particles.
The process used, called electrospinning, is both efficient and highly adaptable. This advanced technique allows for the integration of novel materials, such as FlexSea’s bioplastics, without requiring significant modifications to existing manufacturing systems. Not only is this approach scalable, it also aligns with sustainability goals.
By combining FlexSea’s sustainable, bio-based materials with NanoLayr’s expertise in nanotechnology, the SWIFT project is set to create high-performance, scalable, and environmentally responsible air filters. This breakthrough could significantly reduce landfill waste and diminish dependence on synthetic and oil-based plastics in filtration systems.
We’re proud to be partnering with NanoLayr on this groundbreaking initiative. It’s yet another step forward for the whole FlexSea team as we continue to redefine the possibilities of sustainable materials science.
